Muwi Lawn Mower

Meet Muwi – a concept tubular mower that figures out the size of your garden and rolls around happily, munching away until complete. The grass droppings are popped out as a choice of compact balls or discs, which are dense enough to throw around, or can be stacked to make grass sculptures or furniture. They apparently make good compost too. Great. When can i buy one ?

I got really quite engrossed watching this. I used to draw in flash a lot and i found it so much more intuitive than illustrator. Illustrator used to make me want to put my head through the monitor. I’ve got to that point with illustrator now where you don’t have to consciously think anymore, but i felt quite nostalgic watching the vid. There’s something much more natural and analogue about the drawing methods in flash. More of a heart warming experience. Flash has more soul than illustrator. Manipulating all those stupid nodes gets in the way of your train of thought!Sketch is by the very talented Merdanchik - who’s beautiful work i blogged about a while back.

Archigram Tshirts At Graniph

I was just rummaging about on the Graniph site when i spotted these gems. Graniph have been doing some special collaborations. There’s 3 double sided shirts from Archigram! – those famous 60′s conceptual architects. Masters of paper collage, all their work is visually rich, positive and inspiring.

“Archigram was a a group of the 6 English architects Peter Cook, Warren Chalk, Dennis Crompton, David Green, Ron Herron and Michael Webb. They founded their collective 1964 and instead of realising their ideas as buildings they published their concepts of utopic city plans in the magazine “Archigram”. They crossed the borders of pure architecture business and influenced the cultural movement strongly by expressing their individual thoughts through graphics, collages, poems and experimental media until 1974.”

I Met The Walrus

“Back in 1969, 14-year-old Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon’s Toronto hotel room with a reel-to-reel tape deck in hand. His intentions were to score an interview with Lennon, primarily on the topic of peace.”

Directed by Josh Raskin, illustration by James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina. Link Via Double Takes Blog. Watch the video here.

Design Is Honest

Shirts by Grand Buro & Ken Meier.

I always think of myself as being a designer, but really when you look at it, most of what i do could be considered some form of advertising. It’s a blurry line!

Tjobbe and Roseanna mailed me today to tell be about their upcoming tour. They’re jumping in their camper van and traveling the length and breadth of the country hunting out the best artists, makers, and crafts people they can find, documenting the journey and interviewing as they go. Looks like pretty good fun! Read the full story here. If you’d like the duo to pop round your place, get a look at your art, and stamp you on the map – drop them a mail here.
