I know this is an oldie but i only saw it for the first time the other day. Jason showed me this. It’s a really clever little installation comprised of web cam and abacus-like rack of swivelling wooden chips. A light positioned above reflects off the tiled chips to created a pixelated wooden image of the viewer. I love mechanical wooden machines.

Log Bowls

Canadian Designer Doha Chebib creates these log bowls from fallen trees. Each are hand finished with acrylic colours. I love that each one is completely unique. They’d look so good on my table! Doha is from the Loyal Loot Collective who exhibited recently at 100% Design here in London. Logos spotted over at SubStudio.

A beautifully created, short monster animation here from the students at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Ludwigsburg Germany. Some carefully observed expressions add so much warmth to these lovable creatures. Gorgeous! Watch it here. Cheers for the link Gav! ( Sorry Pokers you’ve seen this one before, but i couldn’t resist it’s monstery charms ;) )

Water Balloons by Dan Hanna

I feel a Sony Bravia ad coming on ;) This water bomb movie reminds me of the slow-mo punch in the face vid. For more Dan Hannacheck his site ( scroll down to spot the Balloon video. )

Dan Hanna took a photo of himself everyday for 17 years, rotating himself to match the earth’s travels around the sun. it takes 2 minutes to get from 31 to 48 years old. Quite fascinating to watch.

Polish Film Posters

Do you remember those classic 80′s movies Critters and War Games ? I don’t remember the covers looking like this when i got them from the video shop! How cool are these? Andrew Lindstrom has collected together a whole bunch of Polish Film posters. Some are really beautiful. The Empire Strikes Back one has the feel of very recent stencil graffiti. Also, if you’re a fan of Weekend At Bernies, ( Chris check it out ) it’s quite a weird one …

Scan Toaster

It would be great to be able to buy this toaster concept. I’d have my weather icon burned into my toast every morning :) Or maybe a twitter update. Where’s my iToaster eh? Now Apple have nailed the telephone, i think they should be getting on with the kitchen boiler and the dishwasher. They desperately need some usability love! Toaster concept spotted over on Gizmodo. Design by Sung Bae Chang.

Unicorn Motorway Monster

It’s been a long time since i’ve seen a watercolour i’ve liked. There’s something really special about this. ( Other than the obvious giant monster! ). There’s great subtlety in the way he’s been treated, and how he merges with his environment. This is one i’d love for the lounge wall. See more of Chris Appelhan’s work here. Via SuperPunch!

Pantone Matryoshka

Pantone Green monsters. Sweet. Would be amazing if you could select your own colours. I’m sure that’d be pricey though! Via Colour Lovers.

Righhanded Lefthanded NoteBooks

Left-handed, and Right-handed notebooks from Jeeyun Michaella Chung. Via Kithkin. What a great idea! I’d like to have a go on one and see if it feels more natural to write in.

Stitched Type

Greetings in thread. Love the stenciled stitching above. I’d never thought of doing that. Neat idea. I bet you could do some amazing embroidered stencil art. I might give Banksy a call see if he wants anything ;) These clever pieces of typography are by Smart Emma. Check out her graphics here. ( Nice identity job for Sew Sew about half way down the project list ).

MIstakes

I like making stuff ( as you know ). Today though i’ve been mostly making mistakes! I wanted to make something i’ve never done before, so i decided to have a go at a book. It was pretty fiddly at first, the glue got everywhere ( and chris didn’t look to impressed with the mess when he got home either ). But making mistakes turned out to be quite satisfying in the end. Although it’s a little rough around the edges and wobbly in places i reckon it came out pretty well! It’s recognisable as a book anyway. So i’m happy with that ;)

I used the very detailed How To Make A Book tutorial by Dave the designer. And book quote photo found on ffffound – it’s originally from Paul Arden’s first book.

Albert

It’s not only monsters you can make from socks. This elegant looking chap looks to me like he’s former foot wear too. He has a look of concern that concerns me, maybe it’s because a photograph of him with no clothes on has been posted on the internet. Found on Flickr in Peas and Needles collection. Peas and Needles also has an impressive pile of knitted vegetables.
