Curvy Russian Monsters

I absolutely love these! They’re amazing. It’s so great the way you can see right into their mouths. I’ve been thinking recently how to make a monster lamp with light pouring out of his eyes and mouth, but i’ve not figured out the best material to make him in. I was thinking of making a prototype out of Fimo, but i’m not sure how fire proof it might be. ( I guess it must be fairly heat resistant as you cook it in the oven! ). Any ideas on good materials for making smooth 3d forms from? …. Anyway, back to the monsters. I found them over on ffffound, and they lead to this Russian site, so i have no idea who made them or if they are indeed from an animation. If you speak Russian help me find them. My best guess is Yan Le Coroller :)

Update: Yes it is – Here’s Yan’s Portfolio, some nice anims in there too :) See also Tayasui, Yan’s interface, application, and product designs. ( So that makes the monsters French not Russian btw )

Hello Maybe Tshirts

A couple of nice hand drawn ones over at Hello Maybe. Liking these colours especially, and the mixture of type styles. Sometimes using lots of fonts can be a great idea ( and i never thought i’d say that ). They’ve got a mixture of graphics, illustration, and street art bits and bobs to check out. Nice.

MiniPops CrossStitch

Do you remember the Flip Flop Flyin’ MiniPops, retro gaming style pixel art? Well Ruby has sat down and mapped out each pixel into a massive Mini Pop cross stitch. Check out her Flickr to see the rollover tags on each character. I can see the White Stripes, ZZ Top, Public Enemy, Indiana Jones… Via Blog Like You Give A Damn.

MrRed By Eric Lerner

There seems to be a little busking monster roaming around the streets of East London. There he is popping to Londis on Columbia Road ! I don’t know how i managed to miss him – but i’m very disappointed indeed. For you locals – see if you can spot where he is in the other shots ;) Watch a nice uncompressed version of Eric Lerner’s video Mr.Red, here. Link spotted in the Pictoplasma review over at We Make Money Not Art. There’s also a few more of Eric’s jolly monster’s over on YouTube.

Rss News Knitter

One off designs created from RSS data feeds of the day’s news and statistics. Brilliant idea, and they look pretty cool too. A product of Mahir M. Yavuz and Ebru Kurbak, students at Kunstuniversität Linz. Cheers Knotty for the link!

“News Knitter converts information gathered from the daily political news into clothing. Live news feed from the Internet that is broadcasted within 24 hours or a particular period is analyzed, filtered and converted into a unique visual pattern for a knitted sweater. The system consists of two different types of software: whereas one receives the content from live feeds the other converts it into visual patterns, and a fully computerized flat knitting machine produces the final output. Each product, sweater of News Knitter is an evidence/result of a specific day or period.”

Lego Guns

The guns are copies of Yuna’s in Final Fantasy X-2. The triggers even move. Loads of games characters have been given the Lego treatment. Including some awesome platform games reconstructed pixel by pixel in 3D, by Skinny Coder. Cheers for the link Paul!

FuturePhysics.jpg

There’s something really hypnotic about this. I don’t know if it’s the music or the rippling textures on the planets, but i played with it for ages. You can see ( and play with ) more of Rafaël’s toys here. Also – his Colour Flip toy and paintings.

Duct Tape Ducks

It’s only recently that i realised that Duck Tape was in fact called Duct Tape. To what ducts you are meant to apply it i don’t know.. ( air ducts, aqua ducts, tear ducts ? ) I have no idea. It’s main use, judging by telle, is in hostage situations. Anyway. Seems pretty reasonable to be making ducks out of it as anythings else i’d say. Ducks here, by Holly Wales illustrator and painter. Nice tea towel by Holly here too.
