Monster-Munch - SockMonsters, People Making Things, Graphics, Typography, Illustration, all the good stuff.

This is bloody ace! You can sing into your phone and it appears in the track. Awesome. Then choose which of your mates you want to sing each note. And bang, you’ve got an amazing / ridiculous cover version. Having lots of fun with cat noises today … must remember to do some work as well. Visit the site here to make a track for your Facebook or Blog. ( Great tech work here from the Poke boys. Crazy voodoo magic to get this one working ).

Spotted this Ghostly Monster fella over on Ffffound and i just had to show you. Traced it back to an article on the consistently excellent Kitsune Noir and here’s the link to the band in question’s site so you can have a little listen. I don’t know for sure but this looks a little like the work of Supermundane ? Had a rummage and indeed it is. Check out his other lovely stuff here. I think i’m quite liking that band too. What a nice double find.

And it’s at this point i break away to tell you about my new jumper. Yes! It’s all hot news down here at Monster-Munch ;) It’s cold and drizzly today and happily my jumper arrived bang in time from Lazy Oaf. There is a questionable fella wearing it in the demo shot so i have removed his head so as not to scare you off. It’s reversible, and suits two moods both joyous and grumpy, or sober vs drunk perhaps, or time for bed vs time to get up. Whatever suits you. Anyway. I am very much looking forward to utilizing this double sided messaging. Watch out for grumpy face – if you see it, a cup of tea wouldn’t go a miss ;)

Here’s the magic moment when Cookie asked me to Marry Him! I said yes of course. I would have even without the absolutely phenomenal engagement bribe that is the 1977 Gibson Les Paul Artisan. But wow, what an amazing day! Beats a ring anyday. See the story told frame by frame here on Cookie’s flickr.

THIS ISN’T ME by the way. But that’s my guitar! How long do you think it’ll be before i can rockout like that? ( Check the last minute ) Phew! Cookie is the most awesome boyfriend. He’s bought me this Engagement Guitar! SO much better than a boring old ring. It’s pretty amazing. Very happy indeed. Oh yeh, and i’m getting married too! That’s pretty cool as well ;)

Cookie has pictures of the big moment – with me looking a bit red nosed with cold, a bit shocked and very happy – here. And also a bit more background on the awesome guitar!

This is pretty impressive!

“No effects or sampling was used. What you see is what you hear (does that even make sense?) Atari 800XL was used for the lead piano/organ sound, Texas Instruments TI-99/4a as lead guitar, 8 Inch Floppy Disk as Bass, 3.5 inch Harddrive as the gong, HP ScanJet 3C was used for all vocals. Please note I had to record the HP scanner 4 separate times for each voice.” Piece by bd594. Source code, demo, and info on how to create something similar here :)

Needed to look at something soothing and nice today after a renagade weekend away with the Pokers. Broken i am! Not sure we can show our faces in Devon again. Anyway, so here’s a little something from ljudbilden with some jolly faced monsters to take the pain away.

The video for Fujiya & Miyagi - Ankle Injuries, so much detail and amazing colours. Ingeniously done. I wouldn’t care if it’s modified in after effects. I wonder if they figured out the dice face tones by eye, pixel by pixel, or if they created an app to work it out. If it’s all done by eye/hand that’s extremely impressive. A lot of work however you look at it. By Director Wade Shotter of Joy Rider Films, see his work here.

Singing Sock Monsters

Come down to Shunt this Thursday night! Making Things Club are holding a Monster Making workshop in the catacombs, along side artist and designer Matthew Irvine Brown. He’s the creator of the Singing Sock Monster! An interactive woolly gadget to create music. They look like so much fun – check the video. I love the idea of subverting unexpected objects and turning them into instruments. Matt’s portfolio is worth a rummage for sure. The soft bits of the Sock Puppets are crafted by Anne from Airside.

MiniPops CrossStitch

Do you remember the Flip Flop Flyin’ MiniPops, retro gaming style pixel art? Well Ruby has sat down and mapped out each pixel into a massive Mini Pop cross stitch. Check out her Flickr to see the rollover tags on each character. I can see the White Stripes, ZZ Top, Public Enemy, Indiana Jones… Via Blog Like You Give A Damn.

ClubPub Rocks One Last Time

ClubPub Rocking one last time…. it doesn’t get better than this :) In fact it was so good it’s taken me nearly a week to get over it! Crank are the best band in the world without a shadow of a doubt. I totally lost my voice from screaming. Absolutely unbelievable. My guitar didn’t survive the mosh pit, but as long as i made it out alive that’s all i care about! And yes, that really is stage diving on a Wednesday night after work ;) haha. Not to mention the swathes of underwear on the stage. Brilliant. Thanks to every person there for making it one of the best nights ever. More, more, more, more, more ……..

Awesome photographic talent featured above by Jaypeg and Mr.Lomo

'Nicky Gibson' Gibson Flying V

Gibson – ready to rock. Turned out better than i thought. From this distance you can hardly see the magic tape, foam board, stickers, cardboard knobs, and felt! Those knobs actually twiddle. Sweet!

Tomi And Cherry Flying V Action

Yes yes, i am glad to see that neon, rock, and flying v’s are transcending all geographical and cultural borders in their bid to take over the world. From this pic is seems that Buenos Aires should be twinned with Shoreditch for sure. This is Cherry – Sporting an equally impressive fake guitar accessory. Good work lady. This is AcidRock ClubPub in a nutshell. They even have the massive cassette! There’s a future in giant accessories mark my words ….

MakingThingsClub Flying V Action!

Now, you might be thinking that it’s quite a weird thing to be doing… And yes in a way you’re probably right! But in fact it’s all action here at Poke Towers, where some of the team have gathered from Making Things Club to prepare for the party of the year next Wednesday. If you fancy popping down to join us, it’s the last ever ClubPub party, and it’s fancy dress, Acid Rock theme! Awesome. It doesn’t get better than that for a theme does it. You’ve got everything from Glam Rock, to Punk Rock, Grunge to Marilyn Manson, Kiss to Ziggy Stardust, Europe and Van Halen to the White Stripes… its endless – oh and with a dash of 90′s Rave thrown in for good measure. Our good mates CRANK will be playing their first ever gig. Extremely excited about that. I saw them rehearsing at the Premises the other day, and they literally are the loudest band in Britain ;) So if you’re up for experiencing amps that go well past 11, come down to On The Rocks in Shoreditch on Wednesday night….
