New Sock Monster Action

I finally got round to sewing his face on last night, in between bouts of Medal of Honour. I’m crap at Medal of Honour, i think i should stick to the sewing!
This long awaited little geezer is for Julie, who i worked with on our Orange Unlimited project ( the never ending website ). As yet un-named, he’s so hot off the press.
NewsFlash: … May i introduce you to Jack!

He’s awesome. The expression is perfect.
Look at these creations made by an artist that takes commercial soft-toys, turns them inside-out and restuffs them. Disturbing!

How do you actually make all these monsters? They’re so cool - I would really like to learn. But if it’s a secret I totally get it :D
Love from Orlaith
P.S. I’m in love with Jack. Period.

Hey Rex - Yeh those inside out bears have something of the psychopath about them for sure! But i love them, especially the ones with wires hanging out like entrails, with the voice box and batteries. .. ahh creeepy!!

Cheers Alex! I’m chuffed with Jack. The double layered mouth gives him a little extra dimension than your ordinary flat Sock Monster. Big teeth are always a winner in my book. I will be doing more! Watch this space ….

Hi Orlaith, Thanks so much for the lovely message. It’s not a secret at all. In fact i’ve been meaning to get stuck into a download-able instruction kit for some time now.
The main tip i can give you is that you use the sock heal as the arse : ) Everything else is generally freestyle.
You start off with your sock inside out, and flatten it so the heal is facing towards you ( like a flap ). Use the heal as the butt, and basically draw out the legs below, and ears above. Sew round leaving a gap. Turn inside out and stuff him. Add facial features, extra limbs, tails, teeth, tentacles, guns, hats, scuba masks, etc to suit. ;)
I love it! The beauty of it is you don’t need to plan anything, you just make it up as you go along. Generally the more you do the more new ideas you have, and you can get into a bit of an obsession very quickly. So watch out!

Hi Izzy.
I’m afraid Jack lives with a friend these days, so he’s no longer mine to sell :) I’ve been thinking about making some new chaps to sell though. What do you reckon ?
